Android 11: The Beta Launch Show Delayed Amid Protests in the US

Alphabet's Google on Saturday said it has postponed next week's planned unveiling of the beta version of its latest Android 11 mobile operating system in light of protests and unrest in the United States.
"We are excited to tell you more about Android 11, but now is not the time to celebrate," Google said in a message posted on its Android developers website. In a tweet, it said that it will announce more details on the new version of Android "soon," without specifying any dates.

To recall, the event was originally scheduled to take place virtually on 11am ET (8.30pm IST) on June 3, Wednesday. Called ‘Android 11: The Beta Launch Show', it was set to introduce new features and tweaks for Android 11, Google's next big software update for its mobile operating system. In its announcement for the virtual event earlier this month, Google has teased that it will introduce a ‘host of other things' as well.
The event trailer had hinted at an upcoming phone launch alongside, and speculation was rife could be the mid-year Pixel 4a. All these developments took place in the context of Google I/O being cancelled this year thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
Google earlier this month also released the fourth Android 11 developer preview for Pixel phones. Google was meant to end its developer preview releases in April and start with beta releases in May, but that has been now been postponed. The tech giant has delayed the launch of Android 11 beta updates to June. The first Android 11 beta was slated to roll out on June 3.
Protests have spread across the United States over the killing of George Floyd, a Minneapolis black man who died after being pinned by the neck under a white police officer's knee.

Xiaomi Mi Box 4K Review

Switching your smartphone every two or three years is fairly common, thanks to rapid improvements in screens, charging, battery life, and performance.
However, two years isn't much in the typical life cycle of a television, and a lot of people are probably still using non-smart televisions that are five or more years old. Similarly, you might even own a smart TV, but poor software, a lack of updates, or poor app support has crippled your ability to watch online content. None of these are necessarily good enough reasons to buy a new TV altogether.
Xiaomi's latest product, the Mi Box 4K, is meant for exactly that purpose. Priced at Rs. 3,499, the Mi Box 4K is a compact table-top streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port of your TV and makes it smart. Alternatively, it can even make a smart TV ‘smarter' with better software and app support. How does this affordable streaming box work, and what can you do with it? Find out in our review.

Who is the Mi Box 4K meant for?

Xiaomi entered the smart television space in India with the Mi TV 4 55 back in early 2018, and has quickly established itself as one of the top brands in the industry thanks to its competitive pricing. However, just a little over two years in, the Mi TV 4 55 isn't getting the latest Android TV update, and anyone used to its smart functionality would rightly be concerned for what's to come. Smart TVs that aren't receiving software updates may lose support for key apps and services, or slow down to the point of being near-impossible to use.
Another possible use case is for someone who is using a TV that was never smart to begin with. Maybe you were happy with DTH and cable TV thus far, but you now want to give streaming services a shot. One way to do this is to buy a new television, but that won't be an affordable option, and you might even feel bad about getting rid of a perfectly functional model before its time is up.
The Mi Box 4K runs the current version of Android TV - version 9 Pie - and is assured an update to the next version when it rolls out. This naturally gives the device access to Android TV's extensive collection of apps and games, all of which can be accessed and used with your HDMI-enabled TV.

How does the Mi Box 4K work?

Like some of our favourite streaming devices, the Mi Box 4K is a standalone unit with its own capabilities and functions, resembling the Apple TV 4K when it comes to form factor. It needs to be connected to a TV using the included HDMI cable, and to a power outlet. Once this is done, the Mi Box 4K is ready to power on and set up. Connectivity to the Internet is only through Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth 4.2 also supported for pairing with audio devices, game controllers, and the included remote.
Once you've set everything up - including linking your Google account - the Mi Box 4K takes over as the smart interface, sending the picture and sound signals to your TV. You can also connect external speakers to the device using the Audio Out port on the Mi Box 4K, bypassing your TV's speakers if needed. This is a hybrid port, so you can connect digital or analogue audio devices to it to redirect the sound.
The device is powered by a quad-core Amlogic processor, and has 2GB of RAM plus 8GB of internal storage for apps. As the name suggests, the Mi Box 4K supports streaming at up to 4K resolution, along with high dynamic range support up to the HDR10 format.
The Mi Box 4K has its own remote, which is used to navigate around the interface, open apps, and adjust the volume, among other things. The remote closely resembles that of the Mi TV range, but is slightly different to reflect the differences in the software.
While Mi TV remotes have a ‘Mi' button to quickly access the PatchWall launcher, the Mi Box 4K's remote has an app drawer button in its place, since it runs only on Android TV without PatchWall.
The remote connects to the device using Bluetooth, and is powered by two AAA batteries. As is the case with some of the recent Mi TV variants we've reviewed, batteries are not included in the sales package, which is disappointing. The remote lacks a mute button, and its build quality is less than ideal. HDMI CEC, while functional, didn't let our TV's remote control everything on the Mi Box 4K, with only basic navigation possible.

What can you do with the Mi Box 4K?

Like other standalone streaming devices, the Mi Box 4K gives you access to a huge collection of apps and games that you can use on your TV. Some apps are preinstalled on the Mi Box 4K, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube, while others can be installed from the Google Play Store for Android TV. Most popular streaming services in India have apps for Android TV, and all the popular options worked well for us on the Mi Box 4K.
Like with most Android TV devices, the Mi Box 4K comes with Google Chromecast functionality built in. This is the same as the Chomecast Ultra, and supports casting at up to 4K resolution. You can mirror your screen or cast directly from supported apps on compatible devices. Interestingly, you can also plug a USB drive into the Mi Box 4K to play local content.
Oddly, we couldn't find a preinstalled media player app, but popular file manager apps on the Google Play Store for Android TV were able to play content across various file formats and resolutions, including HDR content.
The Mi Box 4K supports streaming at up to 4K resolution, with support for HDR up to the HDR10 standard. The lack of support for the better Dolby Vision standard is disappointing, and holds the Mi Box 4K back a bit, especially considering that some televisions priced under Rs. 30,000 now support the 12-bit standard.
HDR10 is decent enough if your TV can handle it, and Netflix and Amazon Prime Video do let you play all HDR10 content. Dolby audio is also supported on the device, and this will come in handy when connected to televisions or sound systems that also support the audio format.
There's also Google Assistant on the Mi Box 4K, with a dedicated button and microphone on the remote. This worked pretty much as expected. It can be linked to other Google Assistant devices for voice commands, such as the Google Home. If you're using a mobile hotspot or other Internet connection with a data cap, the Mi Box 4K has a data saver function that will help you keep track of and reduce bandwidth consumption while streaming.

Verdict

The Xiaomi Mi Box 4K isn't necessarily something that a lot of people will need or want, but it serves its very specific purpose impressively. While it isn't the first Android TV-powered streaming device in India, it is perhaps the only one that offers the full stock experience without any significant omissions or brand-centric overlays. It's also 4K and HDR capable, which is a big advantage at its price.
The biggest competition for the Mi Box 4K comes from the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. Although much more expensive at Rs. 5,999, the Fire TV Stick 4K supports apps such as Apple TV that aren't available on Android TV, and works with the superior Dolby Vision format.
That said, the Fire TV Stick 4K finally gets a worthy competitor in the Mi Box 4K, which offers nearly as much by way of capabilities at a little over half the price.
Price (MRP): Rs. 3,499
Pros
  • Full-fledged Android TV, no bloatware
  • 4K and HDR capable
  • Hybrid audio out and USB port
  • Very good value
Cons
  • Remote build quality isn't ideal
  • HDMI CEC doesn't work perfectly
  • No Dolby Vision
Ratings (Out of 5)
  • Design and specifications: 4
  • Features: 4
  • Value for money: 4.5
  • Overall: 4

TikTok and Indians: Questionable content but TikTok a medium of expression for many Indians

tikTok has often been under the scanner because of the type of content that goes up on the app. From staged assaults on women to animal abuse, the app seems to house all sorts of videos whether you like it or not.
But despite some of its controversial videos, it is still an app that has helped a lot of Indians in gaining visibility and become entertainers that are as good as some top YouTubers.
But before we talk of that, a few words about the recent buzz around TikTok, which has been generated by its plummeting ratings on Google Play Store.
It all started with a brawl between a few TikTok users and a few YouTubers. TikTok users Amir Siddiqui and YouTuber Carry Minati were protagonists in this spat.
They both took pot-shots at each other, a few videos were removed, and YouTubers were enraged. Then started a coordinated attack on the rating of TikTok on the Play store. Millions of 1-star ratings were made and within a week, TikTok’s rating fell from around 4.5 stars to 1.2 stars.
But while the rating war was on, the controversy also brought attention to the content of TikTok. This started with Faisal Siddiqui, whose video glorifying acid attack in one of his TikTok posts, was shared on Facebook and Twitter. Faisal later apologized and his posts were deleted from TikTok.
TikTok: the platform of expression
So what is TikTok and why some people don’t like it? Most people’s aversion towards TikTok seems like a case of class war. Just because people from even the lowest strata of the society have found a medium to express themselves, the other half of the society looks down upon it. Carry Minati’s roast video seemed like one such video.
While a lot of points he made while talking of TikTok content were perfectly fine he also made fun of the English speaking abilities of the TikTok users and used some-not-so-nice slurs against them in his roast.
His rant against TikTok users also reeked of homophobia and this clearly didn’t go down well with a lot of people and even YouTube, which deleted his video.
The reality is that TikTok despite its flaws has given a platform to many people from different backgrounds to express themselves. These people earlier had no such platform. People from less-developed parts of the country, people from villages, people who belong to categories like LGBTQ+, all of them can be seen freely expressing themselves without being judged on TikTok.
The app has not just provided some avenue to many where they express themselves but has also helped earn some fame and money. Not bad, not bad at all.
Questionable content on TikTok
But that also doesn’t take away from the fact that everything goes on TikTok, including cringe-worthy and questionable content.
I downloaded TikTok out of boredom during the lockdown and was surprised to see some people posting videos from funerals and hospitals. Even the dead are used as props by some TikTok users to get more likes and shares on their videos.
On the app, young children are being exposed to the virtual world sooner than they should have been. They are being taught the mannerisms of elders to get traction on the app.
This could really mess up with the minds of the young lot and they might get obsessed with the app without concentrating on the far more important things. Sadly, the parents are the ones subjecting their kids to TikTok.
Having said that, there are some entertaining and informative videos as well on the app. While some people have taken special measures to educate their followers on COVID-19, some have grossly spread misinformation and fake news regarding the same.
Animal abuse and misogyny on TikTok
The worst side of TikTok came to the fore when a user by the name of Faisal Siddiqui glorified acid attack on women on one of its videos. In the video, he throws water on a girl's face after she leaves him for another man.
In the next clip, the girl with fake bruises and acid burns appears. The video was taken down after it received severe backlash on the app and a complaint was filed against Faisal by NCW chief Rekha Sharma.
While this was one video that caught people’s attention, there are still many videos on the app that normalize assault on women. Although the videos are captured with consent, they reflect the deep-rooted misogyny of the users and the people who like, share, and promote such videos.
Another grave concern on the app is animal abuse. Many users torture animals, use them as props, and post videos inciting violence against animals. In one of the videos I came across recently, a puppy was dipped in a chemically-loaded tub of colors.
His whimpers fell to the deaf ears as his “masters” carefully turned him into a prop for the videos. There are videos of people throwing street mongrels from a height only to chuckle at them later.
Although TikTok has time and again suspended and taken against such users, such videos continue to surface.

There is also a Power Saving Mode to offer up to 20 days of usage on a single charge. Besides, the watch measures 256x36.5x11.8mm and weighs 31 grams.

iPhone SE (2020) First Impressions

iPhone SE (2020) is an extremely important product for Apple in India, and we've finally got our hands on it. The launch of this new phone based on an old design, at (what Apple considers) the low starting price of Rs. 42,500, has set off a firestorm of comments from Gadgets 360 readers and viewers, and opinions are quite split. While Apple hopes to tempt buyers who couldn't otherwise afford an iPhone, the price is still too high for many people to stomach, and the iPhone XR doesn't cost that much more.

On one hand, we have the prospect of the class-leading Apple A13 Bionic processor, the slick iOS 13 with updates likely for years, Apple's ecosystem of services, and various other features that match the current-gen iPhone 11 (Review) and iPhone 11 Pro (Review). On the other, we have a dated design, small screen, and a single rear camera, all at three times the cost of a perfectly good Android phone.
The iPhone SE (2020) looks nearly identical to the iPhone 8₹ 38,999 (Review), and in fact, the body has pretty much been recycled without anything other than colours to help you distinguish between them. Silver, Space Grey and Gold have been replaced by simpler White, Black, and (Product)RED options. All three have black front faces, which gives the White version an especially striking look. The glass back is the same, and thankfully so is the IP67 water and dust resistance.
More importantly, this phone is exactly the same size as the iPhone 8, with a 4.7-inch screen. It has the same thick borders above and below the screen, plus a capacitive home button with an integrated fingerprint sensor. Such designs haven't been seen in the Android world for many years now, even at the bottom of the budget tier, and so you might not feel that this phone is modern enough.
We were sceptical too, but the feeling disappeared as soon as we picked up the iPhone SE (2020) and turned it on. First of all, it's incredibly light and compact by today's standards, which feels refreshing. It weighs 148g and is just 7.3mm thick. It's very easy to hold and use in one hand and it wasn't too much of a stretch to reach the upper corners of the screen. This phone is also incredibly well built, with a satisfyingly premium feel and excellent grip. The edges are curved, the seams are perfectly machined, and the Apple feel is not diluted at all.
The iPhone SE (2020) is built very well and has an IP67 rating

When we were using this phone, iOS 13 felt extremely snappy and responsive. Yes, the small screen is a constraint. We can't see ourselves truly enjoying games and videos like we are now used to on the 6-inch and larger screens of most current-day phones, which means that the CPU is likely to go underutilised – plus it's reportedly underclocked. Still, there are other use cases for it, which we will explore in more detail in our full review, coming soon.
Evaluating the iPhone SE (2020) isn't as simple as listing its features. Yes, the screen is small and low-res, but it has Apple's True Tone white balance adjustment feature and remarkable colour accuracy. Yes, it has only a single rear camera, but you get video stabilisation, depth effects and portrait lighting thanks to the A13 Bionic's machine learning capabilities. Yes, it's small and looks old-fashioned, but you get wireless charging and water resistance. These things are what set the iPhone SE (2020) apart from much less expensive Android phones that seem competitive.
There's also Apple's suite of services such as iMessage and iCloud, plus the promise of privacy, security, and major iOS updates for years. That's particularly valuable to users of older iPhones who need an upgrade and want to stay within the ecosystem. All added up, it isn't that hard to justify the price.

In India, the iPhone SE (2020) competes with the nearly-two-year-old iPhone XR (Review) which is now commonly discounted to around the same price or even lower when it goes on sale. We hope this means that the iPhone SE (2020) itself will sell for less than its MRP after some time. Precedent with the original iPhone SE and other entry-level models suggests that this might happen.

The leader who made Narendra Modi the Prime Minister will come to the ground to break the BJP state government. Learn in detail

For 71 years, the return of the Congress to power against Kamal Nath has been a matter of prestige. This is why the Congress and Kamal Nath are going to do something in Madhya Pradesh that may shock the BJP in politics for the first time.

Prashant Kishore, who led BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha and Nitish Kumar in Bihar in 2015, could be the savior of the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. Six months before the Assembly elections, Prashant Kishor is considering handing over election-related responsibilities. Kamal Nath and his team are considering handing over the responsibilities to Prashant Kishore, though only Rahul Gandhi can make the final decision.

Prashant Kishor has a separate team of his own to work with. Prashant Kishor's team is working on new ideas and techniques for the campaign. As soon as he starts working for any party, Prashant Kishore gives political advice, along with the party's election strategy, who does all the work himself, from key issues to who to stand for election to social media.

Prashant Kishor prepares the main issues according to the Legislative Assembly or Lok Sabha. And Vati also shows the action plan. Prashant Kishor also plans to reach out to voters. Prashant Kishor's strategy also includes how to work as a team without the knowledge of the BJP.

Prashant Kishor's idea was to discuss tea The strategy of portraying Narendra Modi as a tea party gave the BJP a wonderful success in 2014. Prashant Kishor is the person who conveyed the Modi government's campaign to the people with the help of Sacha Parcha and other assembly elections. Even easily spoken slogans have been given by Prashant Kishor, such as Abki Bar Modi Sarkar or Bihar Mein Bahar Hey Nitish Kumar.

What will affect Prashant Kishor in Madhya Pradesh If Prashant Kishor handles Congress politics in Madhya Pradesh, it is reasonable for the BJP to win. If Prashant Kishor comes to Madhya Pradesh, a very good alliance can be seen in Kamalmath's political management and election management.

On the first day in Kutch, Khalikham ST. Ran

Bhuj, Ta. 20: ST in lockdown-4. About 300 tourists from all over the district rushed to Khalikham in ST buses which started on Wednesday after a 59-day break after the buses were given concessions. According to Tantra sources, ST buses, which barely started on Wednesday after the marathon meetings which lasted till late Tuesday night, carried only 300 passengers during the day in the entire district due to lack of sufficient information.

Speaking of headquarters Bhuj, only 28 tourists arrived in the Bhuj-Rajkot bus which took off at 8 am on Wednesday. Against which the income is Rs. 3287, only four trips were run in the district, in which only 22 tourists traveled in which the system cost Rs. Revenue of 5500 was recorded.

While 18 passengers in two trips from Anjar depot to Rs. 597, 5971 from 111 tourists through 32 trips at Mundra Depot, Rs. 3200, Bhachau with 60 passengers in 12 trips approximately five thousand, in Rapar with 22 passengers in four trips Rs. About 1300 revenue went to the system. However, the Mandvi depot manager's phone was no-reply, while the Naliya depot was completely closed. Express fares were collected from every tourist as all the buses of today would stop only at the taluka level. So much so that some of the tourists also started complaining.

However, the Divisional Director C.D. Contacting Mahajan, he said he did not have enough details. He did not even bother to pick up the mobile when contacted to know the details from time to time. Thus, the raw material of the system fell. Meanwhile, S.T. The bus service was started only in the talukas on the 53 routes started by Tantra on Wednesday, in which no passengers from the intervening villages were picked up. Many commuters were in trouble as people from intervening villages had to travel to nearby taluka centers.

These buses have to carry a limited number of 30 passengers to maintain social distance, even if a tourist is without a mask he will not be allowed to travel in the bus. Before boarding the bus, all the passengers were checked with guns and the buses were re-sanitized after each trip.

According to Shri Mahajan, a bus from Bhuj to Rajkot route will take off at 8 am every day and reach Rajkot at 1-30 pm, with Anjargandhidham and New Morbi stops in between. The same bus will not stop anywhere in between, will leave at 8 am the next day and reach Bhuj in the afternoon in which it will stop at the above place.

The masks were distributed to all the drivers by the Kutch Divisional Labor Union following the order of the Gujarat Federation before dispatching the buses on Wednesday morning. Union General Secretary Naresh Vyas said that masks would still be provided to all taluka centers. He was joined by Kirit Singh Parmar, Chetan Pancholi, Lokesh Nakar, Mukesh Goswami and Madhubha Jadeja in distributing masks.
