Anand lies between Ahmedabad and Vadodara on the Western Railways, 101 km from the state capital Gandhinagar. It is well on track to become a Municipal Corporation with the inclusion of various peripheral villages like Karamsad, Chikhodra, Lambhvel, V. V Nagar, Bakrol, Mogri and 20 others, however the major part of the town still lacks drainage system.

To protect the environment and maintain ecological balance in the surrounding areas, Company undertakes tree plantation in and around its production units on a regular basis. Further, measures have also been taken to protect flora and fauna. Stress was given on housekeeping, cleanliness, hygiene and safety throughout the year at all units. Environment related workshops and seminars were conducted during the year.

The company proposes to carry out a study on development of phytoremediation technique in plots already covered with top soil in the tailing dam area in MCP. Based on the result of this study, the same will be employed to other related mine tailings.

Hospitals saw a major surge in the demand and, as a consequence, shortage of oxygen since last month. While many plants were approved last year and a fresh lot of plants got approved for the states only recently, hospitals started to panic in search of uninterrupted oxygen supply.

As things became difficult, some, however, found a way out by making their own arrangements albeit with help from elected representatives. Like, the Cottage Hospital or the general hospital in Lunawada in Mahisagar district which has a capacity of 45 oxygen support beds of which, most are occupied. Work on the plant is nearly over and is expected to start operations anytime soon.

Mahisagar district collector RB Barad said that there were no suppliers or plant of oxygen in the district. “Given this situation, we decided to have a small plant of our own. We placed an order for the plant on April 10,” said Barad. The project became possible due to funds under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) grants.

Safety and Protection in Indian Waters

Ever since the 1960's, the Indian Navy had been requesting the Government of India for setting up an auxiliary service for Maritime Law Enforcement and undertaking "Safety and Protection" tasks in Indian waters. Deployment of sophisticated and high-value naval warships and assets was clearly not an optimal alternative for these tasks. In due course, this logic of the Navy was accepted by the Government, especially due to the fact that by the early 1970's, three other important factors contributed to the rationale for the early institution of a 'Coast Guard service.

Sea-borne smuggling across the seas was rampant and threatened the nation's economy. The existing maritime agencies such as the Customs and the Fisheries Department did not have the capability to contain this large-scale smuggling activity, and intercept illegal vessels even within territorial waters. Against this backdrop, the Nag Committee was set up in 1970, to examine the growing menace of smuggling The Committee recommended the need for a separate marine force to deal with smuggling activities.

In 1972, the United Nations Convention on the Laws of the Sea (UNCLOS) awarded Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) to all coastal states Thereafter the Union of India, enacted the Maritime Zones of India Act 1976. to claim sovereign rights over the vast sea area of the Exclusive Economic Zone. In one stroke, India acquired 2.01 million sq kms of ocean for extensive exploitation of all living and non-living resources, and this vast area clearly needed to be policed.

With a total built up area of around 28,000 Smts., a ground plus seven storeyed building with basement parking, an iconic office building has been proposed for the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad. Three entry points have been provided to approach the office complex, one for the general public, one ceremonial entrance and an entry for logistics. The ground floor and the first floor houses public related functions like passport section, applications section, license section etc., with the concerned supervisory officers of each respective section on the first floor. The administrative section is housed from the second to the seventh floor, with the Commissioner of Police located on the seventh floor. The complex also houses multiple conference facilities, press briefing rooms, library and a state of the art centralized Control room. The project is at the tender stage and the construction work of the same will commence shortly.

The State Government had constituted a Commission for Socially and Educationally 6 Roofing Classes in the year 1918 to study the social and economic upliftment of the 6 roof classes and to differentiate the castes belonging to these classes. This Commission is known as Bakshi Panch as it is chaired by retired Judge of Gujarat High Court Shri AR Bakshi. The commission submitted its report in two parts to the state government in the year 18. As per the recommendations made in this report. As per the recommendations made by the state government for the education, economic and social upliftment of the citizens included in these categories from 1/4/18, Gujarat ૫ Roof Class Board was constituted in the year 18. The Board had implemented a Dughala cattle scheme for the economic upliftment of these classes. This board was dissolved from 17-9-17 as per the proclamation of the Government of Gujarat dated 6-9-16. .

The Government felt the need for an autonomous body for the economic upliftment of the socially and educationally deprived classes. To achieve this objective, the Government introduced a bill in the name of Gujarat ૫ Roof Class Development Corporation in the Legislative Assembly and this Bill was prepared by the Legislative Assembly in 19th. Thus Gujarat ૫ Roof Class Development Corporation Act-18 came into existence. Under Section (2) (1) of this Act, the Government of Gujarat The state government has made provision for the corporation to get a capital fund of Rs. 15 crore while replacing the Gujarat ત Roof Class Development Corporation from 3/6/18. After that the amount of authorized share capital has been increased to Rs. 20 crore has been done.
